Let’s make organizations decentralized, consistently self-organized and democratic. It’’s about time! Red42 lead artists: Silke Hermann and Niels Pflaeging.
Red42 was founded in Wiesbaden, Germany, by Silke and Niels, in 2018. A couple of months before, Silke had sold her previous business, Insights Group Deutschland. Now the two felt it was time to create a joint company that would promote Beta organizations and organizational development that works! Silke and Niels intended to continue the joint BetaCodex-based work they had started in 2009 or so, but they also wanted to develop new approaches, building upon the Beta principles.
The first such approach to go public would be OpenSpace Beta, which Silke had envisioned in May 2018, during a stay in Portland, Maine. OpenSpace Beta was launched in October of the same year - together with the OpenSpace Beta handbook in English.
Next, Silke and Niels turned to open source social technologies that would make adopting Beta principles more palpable: Cell Structure Design (on org design) and Relative Targets (on performance systems) - which are also based on the BetaCodex principles of organizing for complexity and for humanity.
